I do like how these existing relationships intertwine and new ones develop, especially with Mord as the wiseass glue. GRIME is a metroidvania game where you play as a humanoid black hole and bash your way through a surrealist world filled with horrors. It does remind me a touch of Getting Over It’s desert landscape, but if it had succumbed to an eldritch nightmare. Given the game’s premise, I would not be surprised if the final boss is a mangled horror that resides in a giant pot, wielding a sledgehammer in each of its tentacles....
The Cayo Perico Heist takes place on a private Caribbean island, home to a drug lord who thinks he’s a whole lot of fun and certainly not terrifying. We’re sent to get some sensitive data, but we surely won’t be leaving with just that. Some folks had hoped Rockstar would let everyone onto the island for regular open-world antics but nah, we can only go for the heist. I never expected it to become part of free roam but, well, I wouldn’t have minded it as a surprise....

If you’ve not had the chance to play GTFO yet, it’s a super tense co-op experience where you and four friends play as prisoners dropped into a mysterious underground complex. You have to be pretty stealthy and extremely coordinated to get to your objectives, because there are some very angry zombie-things that demolish you in hordes if you don’t. The most exciting thing for me with this early access update is the introduction of a bunch of new expeditions....

The “Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection” is a continuation of an older mod. Back in 2015, Filip Victor released Half-Life 2: Update for free on Steam. It’s a subtle upgrade of HL2, with a “complete lighting overhaul including enhanced lighting, more detailed world shadows, and full high dynamic range lighting (HDR).” A few bugs have been fixed in the interim, and an extensive commentary track using well-known YouTubers was included as well....
Here’s commander Agryna’s story, from smol civilian to giant Spartan lady. Look at these tall lads and lasses, absolute stand up folk, eh? I suppose the gist is that everyone playing in the multiplayer is a Spartan in training, getting ready to save folks just like in this very inspiring video. All jokes aside, I actually quite like this trailer. I’m enjoying the trend of FPSs doing more story-based cinematics, even if they are just to promote multiplayer brawls....
Like I mentioned in our 2014 Time Capsule, the game takes a scattershot approach to Dark Souls’ traditional world order. You shoot between dark forests and ancient peaks and there’s even a point where you ride a spooky ghost ship. But it’s this lack of cohesion that makes it so memorable, as you’re just some undead warrior going on this odyssey through a ravaged land, encountering all its weird and wonderful beasties....
And so I reached the moment of cinematic hubris pictured above. Into The Breach had left me with a choice of who to save, and the misery of knowing someone’s death would be all my fault. I tend not to go back to old games, but a few months ago The Breach swallowed me afresh. It’s more elegant than a flock of starlings. Punchier than boxing. Tighter than a can of sardines....

Released in 1997, Moto Racer’s an arcade racer where you zoom around locations on two wheels. Either you ride on a beefy boy built for roads, or you skid through mud on a dirtbike that sounds like a giant bee buzzing in a cavern. As a budding video game-liker, it was simple fun which jetted me off to roasting deserts, snowy slopes and towering cities with zero expectations. This was my favourite thing about Moto Racer....
It’s a first person exploration game with a few puzzles, where you play as a disgraced TV historian (as in, historian who had a TV show not a historian specialising in TV) who has been called to serve as the expert on a film set. The filming is taking place at a small and obscure UK university. Except when you turn up, the place is deserted. The director calls you on a long range walkie talkie and directs you around to look at a few locations, while claiming to be stuck at a farm location nearby....
State of Decay 2 thrusts you into the mundaneity of a survival apocalypse. As Brendy (RPS in peace) noted years ago in his review, it’s little more than an ever-expanding to-do list. After years of updates little has changed, but I think that’s for the better. The tasks themselves might be dull - kill a horde, destroy a plague heart, clear an infestation - but the stories they generate often feel like your own little snippet of an action movie....
