It’s also a good week for Ace Attorney music lovers, too. Capcom’s had the soundtracks for both games on Spotify for a while now, but hidden away in Great Ace Attorney’s special content menu is a treasure trove of unused music by composers Yasumasa Kitagawa and Hiromitsu Maeba. Accompanied by little notes describing their thought process and why they ultimately weren’t selected, it’s a great little peak behind the curtain as to what goes into making a rollicking Ace Attorney theme....

I will definitely take any excuse to fiddle around with the beautiful architecture of these worlds and explore their unfolding narratives again. In a behind the scenes video posted to YouTube today, some of the developers discuss how they’ve made changes so that the games feel at home on PC as they once did on mobile. Hovering over interactable objects will now make them glow, for example, something you couldn’t achieve with the inelegance of a finger on a screen....

Within the depths of Aperture Science, secluded from the rest of the facility, lies a previously unknown and long forgotten testing track,” says Portal Reloaded’s creator. “This mod is targeted at portal veterans, who are familiar with the gameplay of the main series and want to expand their horizons.” After looking at the Portal Reloaded trailer, I definitely believe it’s for pros....

And yet, while we’ve had plenty to enjoy this year, it’s felt like a period of build-up to something bigger. I’m not one for looking forward. If a game’s not out yet it tends to disappear from my mind, making room for a hundred other recent releases in this age of plenty. That I’ve less interest in looking back over this year than I do pondering the next suggests that maybe we’re in for something special in the coming twelve months....

It’s Honey-I-Shrunk-The-Kids-’em up Grounded! Hayden: Survival games tend to feel very similar. Eat, drink, sleep, repeat. The needs system is usually the main adversary, and the challenge lies in those needs being difficult to meet. Grounded doesn’t stray too far from that idea, as even when you’re an ant-sized child trying to survive a suburban garden, failing to meet your basic needs will lead to death. But the rest of the game doesn’t merely focus on gating off those goods to impose added difficulty....

Reload them fists and investigate the bright streets of Tokyo in Judgment! Ed: Judgment is an action-adventure game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the folks behind the Yakuza games. Except that you don’t play as a member of the Yakuza but as defensive attorney turned private detective Takayuki Yagami, who must help bring down Kamurocho’s crime network. This doesn’t mean it’s a tedious spin-off where you’re just being a nice dude putting thugs behind bars, oh no....

Jim liked the original Shadowrun Returns back in 2013, arguing that it felt “like a vindication of the ‘hey, let’s do nostalgia and turn-based RPGs’ thing on Kickstarter.” But it was Shadowrun Dragonfall that expanded the scope of the game, with more choice, a hub area, and side quests, and it properly wowed Alec. By the time Hong Kong arrived the following year, it felt like business as usual, but these remain three solid RPGs set in a beloved universe....

Zürich-based developers Stray Fawn Studio totally get what I’m on about, and have created their own lovable rocky giant in their city-building sim The Wandering Village. Their creature, Onbu, is a colossal six-legged beast, and the walking platform on which your village sits, a plateau of flat land mass on its back making for an excellent settlement ground. Onbu is best described as a gentle giant. They move slowly but carefully, love to munch on fields of wild mushrooms, nap in meadows of soft pink flowers, and tuck in their paws and tail when sleeping....

As the unkindled folks at RPS fanzine PC Gamer discovered, Modern Firearm pretty much does what it says on the cover - adding an arsenal of assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns and sniper rifles to From Software’s grimdark hack ’n’ slash threequel. The mod replaces your standard crossbows and assorted ranged weapons with more contemporary counterparts. The heavy crossbow becomes an AK-47, the sniper crossbow becomes a sniper rifle, and so forth....

Made by modder “Die4Ever”, the Deus Ex Randomiser has tons of different effects that can be added to the game. It does some of the usual things you’d expect, like changing item locations, weapons, NPCs, starting equipment. But it also has some quirkier additions, such as a throwing knives and swords only mode, and my personal favourite, ice physics. Turns out, it’s pretty easy to bully someone using the Crowd Control function by giving them some icy fun....

Until last night, I didn’t play Fall Guys. I appreciate the silly physics and I have a soft spot for battle royales. But I’m terrible at them. The pressure gets to me, as I imagine it’s gotten to Tim until today. For over a week he’s been beset by last-second failures (beware the swears and a lot of yelling) and tragic losses. Nobody has let him live it down. He’s been roasted by the official Fall Guys account....

Over the weekend, Valve launched a public beta test branch of Team Fortress 2 with support for VScript. First introduced with L4D2, VScript lets modders fiddle with the game’s guts in new and exciting ways with a scripting language. This being shiny and new still to TF2, we don’t have many concrete examples of what modders might make. But one thing we do have is a very striking video recreating bits of Titanfall 2 inside the other TF2: That modding is the work of Sarexicus, who explained in a Twitter thread that they were “planning to upload my work here” but they were “beaten to the punch” by this other tweeter....

Last year Alice L asked “Have you played Tomb Raider?” and if the answer is still “no” well, look, you don’t have to play it but you can. “As origin stories go, I think this is one of my favourites,” Alice says. “It still has much of what you expect from a Tomb Raider game, namely puzzles and exploration, but has a primary focus on survival and stealth, which was something the reboot brought in fresh, and set the tone for the two follow up entries....

I played to the point in the demo where I knew I’d want to play more once the full thing comes out, or more realistically when it comes out on early access and I find I can’t help myself. It’s more chatty than Satisfactory, with a voice in your ear that talks you through how to set up drills and whatnot while also remarking on, say, a mysterious drill shaft you might find....

At the grand astrolabe in Imperial Capital of Altdorf, an astronomer spies the constellation Grungi’s Baldric. Apparently this particular constellation features a dwarf and is known to appear in late spring and early summer. Perhaps then Creative Assembly are teasing a Total War: Warhammer 2 DLC involving dwarves to release this spring?...
